Price for Molybdenum; Waste and Scrap in Brazil (FOB) - 2023

The average molybdenum; waste and scrap export price stood at $22,868 per ton in August 2023, with an increase of 24% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from September 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last eleven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, molybdenum; waste and scrap export price increased by +24.1% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 26% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $34,586 per ton. From April 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From September 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to +2.4% per month.

The average molybdenum; waste and scrap import price stood at $6,409 per ton in 2022, picking up by 36% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 64%. The import price peaked at $30,583 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($16,212 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($5,175 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+39.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Molybdenum; Waste and Scrap in Brazil

In 2022, shipments abroad of molybdenum; waste and scraps decreased by -76.1% to 220 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year.
