In 2022, the average import price for molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds amounted to $14,710 per ton, with an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds increased by +14.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $18,916 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($19,981 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($5,829 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+29.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds amounted to $3,667 per ton, shrinking by -38.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 a decrease of -13%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $7,250 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($5,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania stood at $1,000 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+3.2%).

Imports of Molluscs; Octopus (Octopus Spp.), Live, Fresh or Chilled in Hungary

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds decreased by -45.2% to 11 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 189%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 21 tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, imports of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds shrank rapidly to $167K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 161% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $292K, and then plummeted in the following year.
