The average export price for mollusc preparations; octopus, prepared or preserveds stood at $9,831 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -7.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.4% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $12,363 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($15,062 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($5,753 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average import price for mollusc preparations; octopus, prepared or preserveds stood at $10,323 per ton in 2022, picking up by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $16,562 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($26,829 per ton), while the price for Vietnam totaled $9,289 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the amount of mollusc preparations; octopus, prepared or preserveds exported from China skyrocketed to 24K tons, picking up by 16% compared with 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, exports of mollusc preparations; octopus, prepared or preserveds surged to $300M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.6% against 2020 indices.
