Price for Mollusc Preparations; Abalone, Prepared or Preserved in China (FOB) - 2022

The average export price for mollusc preparations; abalone, prepared or preserveds stood at $30,988 per ton in 2022, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The export price peaked at $52,135 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($42,606 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($16,378 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

As a result, import price attained the peak level of $621K per ton. From July 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Australia.

From January 2023 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Australia amounted to +5.6% per month.

For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in shipments abroad of mollusc preparations; abalone, prepared or preserveds, which increased by 7.6% to 13K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +22.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +82.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, exports of mollusc preparations; abalone, prepared or preserveds rose sharply to $409M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +47.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Overall, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 104% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 85 tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.
