Price for Metals; Platinum, Unwrought or in Powder Form in Germany (CIF) - 2023

In October 2023, the average import price for metals; platinum, unwrought or in powder forms amounted to $30.2M per ton, surging by 1.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $35.8M per ton in May 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to October 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($33.4M per ton), while the price for Thailand ($6.5M per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for metals; platinum, unwrought or in powder forms amounted to $32.4M per ton, falling by -2.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 24% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $42,275 per kg; afterwards, it flattened through to October 2023.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($34.7M per ton) and Switzerland ($33.2M per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($30.7M per ton) and Belgium ($30.9M per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the amount of metals; platinum, unwrought or in powder forms imported into Germany skyrocketed to 34 tons, jumping by 38% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced slump.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 2.7% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $706M, and then fell in the following year.
