In 2022, the average import price for lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses amounted to $3,737 per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 16%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,806 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($8,447 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($2,709 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses amounted to $6,568 per ton, with a decrease of -6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $7,319 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Thailand.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +133.9% per year.
Imports of Lubricating Oil Additives; Containing Petroleum Oils or Oils Obtained from Bituminous Minerals in Sri Lanka
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses decreased by -15.6% to 3.6K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 38%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4.3K tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, imports of lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses fell modestly to $14M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +40.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 39%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $14M, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

For the third consecutive year, Sri Lanka recorded decline in overseas shipments of lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses, which decreased by -12.3% to 13 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The smallest decline of -11% was in 2021.
In value terms, exports of lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses reduced rapidly to $88K in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 22%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $125K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
