In January 2024, the average import price for lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses amounted to $4,248 per ton, shrinking by -16.5% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2023 to January 2024, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 48% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $5,376 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to January 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,797 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($2,577 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 93% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,879 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($17,129 per ton), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($4,370 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of lubricating oil additives; containing petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous mineralses soared to $62M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.1% over the last three-year period.
