Price for Liquefied Petroleum Gases Other than Propane, Butanes, Ethylene, Propylene, Butylene or Butadiene in Kenya (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for liquefied petroleum gases other than propane, butanes, ethylene, propylene, butylene or butadienes stood at $916 per ton in 2022, declining by -23.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 16%. The import price peaked at $2,107 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($10,503 per ton), while the price for Zambia ($2,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+26.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the export price continues to indicate a significant curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 114%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $12,026 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($154,205 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($8,445 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+57.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $152K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +68.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, exports of liquefied petroleum gases other than propane, butanes, ethylene, propylene, butylene or butadienes declined dramatically to $13K in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a sharp contraction.
