The average import price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes stood at $1,695 per ton in 2022, rising by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 31%. The import price peaked at $2,621 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($33,086 per ton), while the price for Iran ($1,285 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

For the third consecutive year, Pakistan recorded decline in supplies from abroad of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes, which decreased by -15.3% to 1.8 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The smallest decline of -8% was in 2020.

In value terms, imports of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes expanded markedly to $3.1K in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
