The average import price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes stood at $741 per ton in December 2023, approximately equating the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 26% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $890 per ton. From March 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($745 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($575 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Imports of Liquefied Ethylene, Propylene, Butylene and Butadiene in Myanmar

In 2022, purchases abroad of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes increased by 3.6% to 60K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep contraction.

In value terms, imports of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes skyrocketed to $59M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
