In 2022, the average import price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes amounted to $641 per ton, with a decrease of -4.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 25% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,176 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the Netherlands ($68,063 per ton) and Germany ($60,072 per ton), while the price for Estonia ($45,694 per ton) and Lithuania ($51,543 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+72.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $21,223 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($36,942 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia amounted to $17,680 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (-11.9%).

For the third year in a row, Latvia recorded decline in purchases abroad of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes, which decreased by -29.6% to 17 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous descent. The smallest decline of -29.6% was in 2021.

In value terms, imports of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes fell sharply to $11K in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant decline. The smallest decline of -32.7% was in 2021.
