Price for Iron Ore and Concentrate, Non-Agglomerated in Serbia (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average import price for iron ores and concentrates, non-agglomerated amounted to $133 per ton, waning by -17.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 51%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $161 per ton, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were South Africa ($146 per ton) and Australia ($143 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($118 per ton) and Turkey ($133 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Albania (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for iron ores and concentrates, non-agglomerated amounted to $1,561 per ton, jumping by 425% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed significant growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for North Macedonia.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Romania amounted to +30.0% per year.

Imports of Iron Ore and Concentrate, Non-Agglomerated in Serbia

In 2022, approx. 784K tons of iron ores and concentrates, non-agglomerated were imported into Serbia; declining by -19.5% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 974K tons, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, iron ore and concentrate, non-agglomerated imports dropped remarkably to $104M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 99% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $157M, and then reduced notably in the following year.

For the third consecutive year, Serbia recorded decline in overseas shipments of iron ores and concentrates, non-agglomerated, which decreased by 99.9% to 1.5 tons in 2022. Overall, exports faced a sharp reduction. The smallest decline of -4.2% was in 2021.

In value terms, iron ore and concentrate, non-agglomerated exports declined dramatically to $2.3K in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 17% against the previous year.
