In March 2023, the average import price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $744 per ton, with an increase of 8.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 27% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,195 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to March 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($753 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $683 per ton.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $890 per ton, and then declined markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Antigua and Barbuda ($915 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guyana ($554 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jamaica (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
