Price for Iron and Steel Wire in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average iron and steel wire export price stood at $1,034 per ton in January 2022, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 an increase of 10% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,060 per ton in August 2021; however, from September 2021 to January 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,486 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($712 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Iron and Steel Wire in Russia (CIF) - 2022
The average iron and steel wire import price stood at $1,664 per ton in January 2022, with a decrease of -3.4% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2021 to January 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2021 an increase of 21% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,856 per ton in November 2021; however, from December 2021 to January 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,867 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($948 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Iron and Steel Wire in Russia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of iron and steel wire, when their volume decreased by -4.9% to 398K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year.
In value terms, iron and steel wire exports fell significantly to $304M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 79% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $390M, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
