Price for Iron and Non-Alloy Steel in Ingot in Germany (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average import price for iron and non-alloy steel in ingots amounted to $2,363 per ton, with an increase of 40% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 188% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,501 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($34,503 per ton), while the price for France ($870 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+17.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for iron and non-alloy steel in ingots stood at $985 per ton in September 2023, with an increase of 58% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight setback. The export price peaked at $1,160 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($2,396 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($222 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of iron and non-alloy steel in ingots into Germany declined significantly to 13K tons in 2022, waning by -23.9% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 33%.

In value terms, imports of iron and non-alloy steel in ingots rose markedly to $30M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 88%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
