Price for Hot-Rolled Wire Stainless Steel Rod in Germany (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for hot-rolled wire rod in coil of stainless steel stood at $4,764 per ton in August 2023, surging by 2.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 8.9% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,101 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($7,718 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($3,539 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for hot-rolled wire rod in coil of stainless steel stood at $9,404 per ton in August 2023, growing by 12% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a strong expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, hot-rolled wire stainless steel rod export price increased by +105.9% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 55% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in August 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($23,242 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($3,139 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+73.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Hot-Rolled Wire Stainless Steel Rod in Germany

In 2022, approx. 74K tons of hot-rolled wire rod in coil of stainless steel were imported into Germany; shrinking by -2.8% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 76K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, hot-rolled wire stainless steel rod imports surged to $379M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
