Price for Hot-Rolled Wire Rod in Coils in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
In December 2023, the average import price for hot-rolled wire rods in coils amounted to $717 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 3% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $851 per ton. From May 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the UK ($941 per ton) and Austria ($752 per ton), while the price for Italy ($689 per ton) and Romania ($701 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for hot-rolled wire rods in coils stood at $774 per ton in November 2023, rising by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $883 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($1,535 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($653 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Hot-Rolled Wire Rod in Coils in Hungary
In 2022, hot-rolled wire rod in coils imports into Hungary shrank modestly to 281K tons, with a decrease of -1.9% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 286K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, hot-rolled wire rod in coils imports surged to $284M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 97%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In general, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 230%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, hot-rolled wire rod in coils exports surged to $23M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion.
