Price for Horse, Mule and Donkey Meat in France (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average import price for horse, mule and donkey meat amounted to $6,555 per ton, with an increase of 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 9.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $6,617 per ton in May 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($8,954 per ton), while the price for Spain ($4,021 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for horse, mule and donkey meat stood at $8,866 per ton in July 2023, growing by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 55% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $9,257 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Horse, Mule and Donkey Meat in France

In 2022, approx. 7.1K tons of horse, mule and donkey meat were imported into France; which is down by -8.7% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 10%.
