Price for Gingerbread, Sweet Biscuit and Waffle in Myanmar (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles stood at $1,874 per ton in December 2022, with a decrease of -26.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 22% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,564 per ton, and then contracted markedly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($4,995 per ton), while the price for China ($460 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles stood at $750 per ton in December 2022, dropping by -3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 an increase of 86% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,321 per ton. From July 2022 to December 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was India ($751 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia stood at $300 per ton.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+1.2%).

Imports of Gingerbread, Sweet Biscuit and Waffle in Myanmar

In 2022, overseas purchases of gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles decreased by -8.5% to 28K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 8.8% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 31K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports dropped modestly to $57M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7.5% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $63M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
