Price for Frozen Fish and Seafood in the United States (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average frozen fish and seafood import price amounted to $9,409 per ton, surging by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($27,466 per ton), while the price for China ($5,016 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 9.7% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($5,590 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($2,682 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Frozen Fish and Seafood in the United States

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of frozen fish and seafood decreased by -2% to 1.7M tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.8M tons, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
