Price for Frozen, Dried and Smoked Fish in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average export price for frozen, dried and smoked fish amounted to $5,804 per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen, dried and smoked fish export price increased by +33.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,140 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($2,546 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for frozen, dried and smoked fish stood at $2,319 per ton in 2022, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen, dried and smoked fish import price increased by +74.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 34% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($11,596 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($798 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Frozen, Dried and Smoked Fish in Indonesia

In 2022, overseas shipments of frozen, dried and smoked fish decreased by -3.7% to 503K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 600K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen, dried and smoked fish exports rose significantly to $2.9B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
