Price for Fresh or Chilled Anchovies in Greece (CIF) - 2022

The average fresh or chilled anchovies import price stood at $2,431 per ton in 2022, reducing by -14.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,599 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,970 per ton), while the price for Croatia ($1,733 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Fresh or Chilled Anchovies in Greece (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average fresh or chilled anchovies export price amounted to $948 per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 57% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,641 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($1,790 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($683 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports of Fresh or Chilled Anchovies in Greece

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of fresh or chilled anchovieses decreased by -15.3% to 123 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 272% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 145 tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, fresh or chilled anchovies imports reduced rapidly to $299K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 204%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $412K, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
