In 2022, the average export price for fish; edible offal, other than shark fins, fish heads, tails and mawses amounted to $2,015 per ton, waning by -8.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 136% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,316 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($4,028 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($932 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for fish; edible offal, other than shark fins, fish heads, tails and mawses stood at $236 per ton in 2022, which is down by -16.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,087 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($1,250 per ton), while the price for Tanzania totaled $213 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (-15.9%).

Exports of fish; edible offal, other than shark fins, fish heads, tails and mawses from Uganda fell remarkably to 24 tons in 2022, shrinking by -90.2% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 1.9% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of fish; edible offal, other than shark fins, fish heads, tails and mawses reduced markedly to $49K in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 7.7%.
