In August 2023, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steels amounted to $531 per ton, rising by 3.8% against the previous month. Over the last ten months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 27% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $644 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($591 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($330 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Luxembourg (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $554 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($1,830 per ton), while the price for Canada ($304 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
