In September 2023, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of tinned iron or steels amounted to $409 per ton, dropping by -1.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 9.3% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $493 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($488 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($388 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $407 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
