Price for Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Tinned Iron or Steel in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of tinned iron or steels stood at $347 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -15.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $417 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Austria ($410 per ton) and Croatia ($401 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($294 per ton) and Italy ($348 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Tinned Iron or Steel in Hungary

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of ferrous waste and scrap; of tinned iron or steels, when their volume decreased by -12.3% to 37K tons. Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +74.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 66% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of ferrous waste and scrap; of tinned iron or steels declined to $16M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 106%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $19M, and then reduced in the following year.
