The average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $1,379 per ton in December 2022, growing by 9.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 115% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,377 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to December 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was India ($1,734 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($567 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $2,656 per ton in 2022, surging by 103% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight downturn. The import price peaked at $2,986 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($3,212 per ton), while the price for France ($495 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
