Price for Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Stainless Steel in Poland (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $1,724 per ton in November 2023, rising by 5.8% against the previous month. Over the last eleven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 22% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,974 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($2,995 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($730 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels amounted to $1,747 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,870 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($2,261 per ton), while the price for Ukraine stood at $1,620 per ton.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Stainless Steel in Poland

In 2022, overseas shipments of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels decreased by -14.1% to 141K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 3.6%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 166K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels rose markedly to $304M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.1% over the last three years. As a result, imports attained the peak of 28K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, imports of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels fell to $47M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed resilient growth.
