In November 2023, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels amounted to $1,788 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period from November 2022 to November 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 33% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,002 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($1,790 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania stood at $1,490 per ton.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+2.9%).

In December 2023, the average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels amounted to $1,696 per ton, waning by -2.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,213 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($1,793 per ton), while the price for Germany ($375 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels from Latvia contracted significantly to 15K tons in 2022, reducing by -22.2% against 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +39.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $35M, and then declined modestly in the following year.
