Price for Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Cast Iron in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of cast ira amounted to $351 per ton, rising by 2.8% against the previous month. Over the last eleven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 13% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $401 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Austria ($394 per ton) and Croatia ($367 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($288 per ton) and Slovenia ($300 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of cast ira amounted to $413 per ton, with an increase of 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 97% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,089 per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($341 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Ferrous Waste and Scrap; of Cast Iron in Hungary

In 2022, the amount of ferrous waste and scrap; of cast ira exported from Hungary dropped markedly to 98K tons, with a decrease of -21.1% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +19.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 125% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $46M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
