The average ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys import price stood at $1,583 per ton in 2022, reducing by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,928 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($27,000 per ton), while the price for China ($459 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys export price stood at $7,180 per ton in 2022, increasing by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $7,668 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Sudan ($7,803 per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($3,438 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+26.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Ferro-Cerium and Pyrophoric Alloys in Uganda

In 2022, imports of ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys into Uganda contracted to 324 kg, stabilizing at the year before. In general, imports recorded a sharp curtailment.

In value terms, ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys imports declined to $513 in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a precipitous setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 7.1% against the previous year.
