The average export price for ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) stood at $1,920 per ton in September 2023, which is down by -7.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 16% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,143 per ton. From January 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($2,432 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($1,546 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In September 2023, the average import price for ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) amounted to $1,807 per ton, with a decrease of -1.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,606 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($2,274 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($1,171 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Ether-Alcohols and Their Halogenated, Sulphonated, Nitrated or Nitrosated Derivatives in Germany
In 2022, approx. 240K tons of ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) were exported from Germany; waning by -23.9% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 316K tons, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, exports of ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) reduced to $687M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 78%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $778M, and then contracted in the following year.
