Price for Ether-Alcohols and Their Halogenated, Sulphonated, Nitrated or Nitrosated Derivatives in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average import price for ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) amounted to $1,798 per ton, growing by 2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 19% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,693 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,089 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($1,250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) stood at $1,843 per ton in September 2023, growing by 1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 13% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,245 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,722 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($882 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Ether-Alcohols and Their Halogenated, Sulphonated, Nitrated or Nitrosated Derivatives in Belgium
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) decreased by -60% to 97K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 120%.
In value terms, imports of ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) shrank sharply to $219M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $463M, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, exports of ether-alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives (excluding 2,2-oxydiethanol) shrank dramatically to $219M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 137%.
