In 2022, the average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $5,174 per ton, growing by 6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $29,725 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($8,516 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1,959 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (-5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

For the fourth consecutive year, Paraguay recorded growth in purchases abroad of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds, which increased by 15% to 81 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 97%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds surged to $421K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
