The average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $5,710 per ton in October 2023, growing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 an increase of 47% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,601 per ton. From March 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($11,169 per ton), while the price for Chile ($3,342 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $7,696 per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $9,453 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($14,171 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($2,774 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

For the fourth year in a row, Greece recorded growth in overseas purchases of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds, which increased by 1.5% to 2.8K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds surged to $14M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
