The average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $9,346 per ton in October 2023, falling by -5.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 15% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $10,407 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($14,958 per ton), while the price for Chile ($3,636 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+13.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $11,984 per ton, rising by 18% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 36% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $13,796 per ton. From February 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($14,743 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($11,830 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Germany recorded growth in overseas purchases of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds, which increased by 2% to 45K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 12%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds declined modestly to $408M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12%.
