The average import price for crustacean preparations; prepared or preserved crustaceans (excluding crab, shrimps, prawns and lobster)s stood at $16,076 per ton in 2022, picking up by 4.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 28%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $18,649 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($33,061 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($6,046 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In November 2023, the average export price for crustacean preparations; prepared or preserved crustaceans (excluding crab, shrimps, prawns and lobster)s amounted to $18,341 per ton, falling by -8.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 13% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $21,793 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Hong Kong SAR ($19,712 per ton) and the United States ($19,573 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($14,044 per ton) and Singapore ($18,905 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of crustacean preparations; prepared or preserved crustaceans (excluding crab, shrimps, prawns and lobster)s, when their volume decreased by -47.6% to 247 tons. Overall, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 106%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 472 tons, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of crustacean preparations; prepared or preserved crustaceans (excluding crab, shrimps, prawns and lobster)s contracted remarkably to $4M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 124%.
