Price for Crab and Crab Meat in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average crab and crab meat import price amounted to $69,798 per ton, increasing by 134% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 1,679% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $81,895 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Norway ($76,297 per ton), while the price for China totaled $3,473 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Crab and Crab Meat in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average crab and crab meat export price amounted to $6,248 per ton, declining by -17.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 122%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,990 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($10,123 per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($420 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Crab and Crab Meat in Turkey
Crab and crab meat imports into Turkey contracted rapidly to 23 tons in 2022, which is down by -24.5% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 164% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 31 tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.
In value terms, crab and crab meat imports contracted to $1.4M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion.
