Price for Crab and Crab Meat in Italy (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average crab and crab meat import price amounted to $6,768 per ton, declining by -7.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 an increase of 23% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $8,422 per ton. From March 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Norway ($61,425 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($2,724 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Crab and Crab Meat in Italy (FOB) - 2023
The average crab and crab meat export price stood at $5,790 per ton in July 2023, which is down by -2.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 72% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $9,652 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Austria ($41,541 per ton), while the average price for exports to Albania ($2,270 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Crab and Crab Meat in Italy
In 2022, the amount of crabs and crab meat imported into Italy declined to 2.6K tons, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.6K tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, crab and crab meat imports reached $18M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 60%.
