Price for Copper; Waste and Scrap in Ghana (FOB) - 2022

The average copper; waste and scrap export price stood at $3,955 per ton in December 2021, which is down by -2% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, posted a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2021 an increase of 39% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $5,124 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($8,172 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lebanon ($375 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+28.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average copper; waste and scrap import price amounted to $9,588 per ton, jumping by 31% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($24,000 per ton), while the price for Burkina Faso ($8,219 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+31.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Copper; Waste and Scrap in Ghana

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of copper; waste and scraps, when their volume increased by 37% to 8.7K tons. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable decline.

In value terms, copper; waste and scrap exports surged to $37M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep slump.
