The average copper; refined, unwrought, billets import price stood at $9,297 per ton in September 2023, surging by 8.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 9.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in September 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($29,487 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($7,806 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average copper; refined, unwrought, billets export price stood at $4,480 per ton in 2022, increasing by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep contraction. The export price peaked at $8,799 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($7,529 per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($4,849 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Copper; Refined, Unwrought, Billets in China
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of copper; refined, unwrought, billetses decreased by -3.4% to 49K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year.
In value terms, copper; refined, unwrought, billets imports contracted to $435M in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 76%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $444M, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, copper; refined, unwrought, billets exports surged to $143K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 454%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $202K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
