Price for Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in South Korea (FOB) - 2022

The average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $9,653 per ton in December 2022, rising by 2.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 an increase of 2.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $11,523 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to December 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In December 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to Hungary ($11,043 per ton) and Thailand ($11,008 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($8,960 per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($9,041 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $11,858 per ton in December 2022, growing by 8.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $15,109 per ton. From April 2022 to December 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($59,958 per ton), while the price for China ($8,420 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in South Korea

Copper plates, sheets and strip exports from South Korea reduced slightly to 76K tons in 2022, waning by -1.9% compared with the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 7.7%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 78K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip exports expanded modestly to $802M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip imports surged to $340M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 69%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
