The average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $10,376 per ton in July 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 6.8% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $10,970 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Austria ($11,358 per ton) and France ($11,086 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($9,683 per ton) and the United States ($9,859 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $10,550 per ton, surging by 7.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 50% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $15,459 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($15,313 per ton), while the price for France ($9,059 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in Bulgaria

For the fourth year in a row, Bulgaria recorded growth in shipments abroad of copper plates, sheets and strips, which increased by 3.7% to 59K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 6.7%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip exports rose markedly to $588M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
