Price for Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average export price for copper bars, wire and plates stood at $9,235 per ton in January 2022, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2021 an increase of 8.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in January 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In January 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Turkey ($9,947 per ton) and Qatar ($9,872 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($8,729 per ton) and Kuwait ($8,861 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Russia (CIF) - 2022
The average import price for copper bars, wire and plates stood at $12,565 per ton in January 2022, falling by -2.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2021 an increase of 19% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $13,086 per ton. From September 2021 to January 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($28,582 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($8,934 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Russia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of copper bars, wire and plates, when their volume decreased by -23.9% to 175K tons. Overall, total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +15.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 230K tons, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates exports shrank notably to $1.5B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 124%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2B, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports of Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Russia
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of copper bars, wire and plates increased by 2.3% to 5.7K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports declined to $58M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year.
