Price for Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Pakistan (CIF) - 2023
In February 2023, the average import price for copper bars, wire and plates amounted to $8,306 per ton, falling by -10.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $12,029 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to February 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Japan ($9,695 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($9,490 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($7,040 per ton) and China ($7,628 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Price for Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Pakistan (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for copper bars, wire and plates stood at $6,797 per ton in February 2023, growing by 6.5% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a modest increase from February 2022 to February 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, copper bars, wire and plates export price increased by +16.0% against December 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 120% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $10,300 per ton. From June 2022 to February 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($7,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($2,642 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Pakistan
For the fourth year in a row, Pakistan recorded growth in overseas purchases of copper bars, wire and plates, which increased by less than 0.1% to 4.5K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports rose notably to $46M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
