Price for Copper Bar, Rod and Profile in Latvia (FOB) - 2022
The average export price for copper bars, rods and profiles stood at $5,379 per ton in 2022, which is down by -12.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 7.9%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $8,553 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($9,848 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($4,784 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In October 2023, the average import price for copper bars, rods and profiles amounted to $15,740 per ton, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a temperate expansion from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, copper bar, rod and profile import price increased by +25.5% against August 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 65% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $20,643 per ton. From February 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($53,721 per ton), while the price for Poland ($10,806 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+78.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Copper Bar, Rod and Profile in Latvia
In 2022, shipments abroad of copper bars, rods and profiles decreased by -11% to 967 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 57%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.1K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile exports shrank markedly to $5.2M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +33.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 60% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $6.7M, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
