The average import price for cocoa; paste, wholly or partly defatted stood at $1,874 per ton in 2022, dropping by -12.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 33%. The import price peaked at $2,305 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($1,951 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,207 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for cocoa; paste, wholly or partly defatted stood at $1,422 per ton in 2021, shrinking by -26.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $3,293 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,030 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($306 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (-8.7%).
Imports of Cocoa; Paste, Wholly or Partly Defatted in Russia
In 2022, purchases abroad of cocoa; paste, wholly or partly defatted decreased by -2.4% to 5.4K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year.
In value terms, imports of cocoa; paste, wholly or partly defatted reduced to $10M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 77%.

For the third year in a row, Russia recorded growth in shipments abroad of cocoa; paste, wholly or partly defatted, which increased by 3,978% to 37 tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of cocoa; paste, wholly or partly defatted surged to $53K in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 4,563% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
