The average import price for cocoa; paste; whether or not defatteds stood at $5,338 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 16% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 an increase of 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in December 2023.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Cote d'Ivoire ($6,556 per ton) and the Netherlands ($5,986 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($4,845 per ton) and Malaysia ($5,372 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price peaked at $5,556 per ton in November 2023, and then declined in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($6,902 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($4,077 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
