In July 2023, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price amounted to $4,250 per ton, surging by 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous month. The import price peaked in July 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Spain ($4,821 per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($4,244 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($4,084 per ton) and Malaysia ($4,231 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price amounted to $3,085 per ton, falling by -25.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 313% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $9,150 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($5,380 per ton), while the average price for exports to Swaziland totaled $3,071 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lesotho (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
