The average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price stood at $3,937 per ton in 2022, declining by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,663 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($6,079 per ton), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($3,821 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price amounted to $3,223 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 13%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,752 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($3,485 per ton), while the price for Cote d'Ivoire amounted to $3,181 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (-3.2%).

Exports of Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Mexico

In 2022, shipments abroad of cocoa; paste, not defatteds increased by 24% to 222 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, faced a deep reduction.

In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted exports skyrocketed to $873K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of cocoa; paste, not defatteds decreased by -20.8% to 2.3K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 88% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.9K tons, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted imports fell markedly to $7.5M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $9.5M, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
